First up this week isn't exactly TV news. The Warner NTSC R1 Doctor Who DVD releases for August have been announced. Warner will be releasing The Tomb of the Cybermen and The Ark In Space in the US & Canada. The Ark In Space will have a R1 exclusive extra - the Howard Da Silva introductions from the 1978 US syndicated version of the story, remastered by TJ Lubinsky.

TJ Lubinsky has kindly provided This Week In Doctor Who with transcripts and some exclusive info about the Da Silva intros made for TheArkInSpace. This material will be posted to the TWIDW mailing list shortly after today's column goes out.
Also, later this weekend I will be reprinting a special article on the story of the Da Silva intros which was originally included in the August 24, 2001 edition of This Week In Doctor Who http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/message/34/ . Due to the length of that article, it will be reprinted Saturday to avoid overload for those reading the group in digest format.
Once both articles have gone to the mailing list, I'll provide links to them in the other places where This Week In Doctor Who is read. While I strongly advise people to subscribe to the TWIDW mailing list, subscribing is not necessary to read the articles on the website.
Remember Death Comes To Time, the online Doctor Who drama whose first episode premiered on the BBC's Doctor Who site back in July? Episode 2 is finally coming out this coming Thursday, 14 February. Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred star in this story, originally intended to be carried on BBC Radio 4. Later this year, after all the episodes have premiered online, Death Comes To Time will be released on CD. To listen to episode 1, or listen to episode 2 come the 14th, visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/death/index.shtml .
UK - BCB Radio http://www.bcb.yorks.com/ aired The Who Review yesterday.
Alas, those of us who were going to listen with the new RealOne Player had connection problems, and it was impossible to tune in. I don't know if the older RealPlayer devices could tune it in, as I made the mistake of upgrading before the show. BCB reports to being aware about the problem with the audio stream and hope to fix it soon. BCB Radio also airs in the Bradford, UK area on Cable radio and will broadcast on the open airwaves in that area full time beginning 1 March at 96.7FM.
The common link in Doctor Who TV news this week seems to involve disappearances. Doctor Who is acting like The Invisible Man:
1) USA - KUED/KUES 7,39 Salt Lake City/Richfield, UT appears to have taken Doctor Who and much of their programming off the air for the duration of the Winter Olympics, with specials airing in their place. I guess they didn't want to waste regular programming in the city where the Olympics were being held, assuming that most people will be attending the games in person or watching them on the NBC station. So, all you Doctor Who fans who used the excuse of the Olympics to go to Salt Lake City and see Doctor Who on TV every weekend - bad news, you've been rumbled.
2) USA - WYIN 56 Gary, IN (Chicago, IL) was off the air for much of last weekend, so Doctor Who did not air. It is unclear what WYIN will do this weekend as a result. Will they air Kinda episodes 1+2, which they have scheduled for this weekend? Will they air episodes 3+4 of Four To Doomsday, which were scheduled to air last weekend, even though they already aired January 26? Will they air episodes 1+2 of Four To Doomsday, which were skipped altogether last month? No clue.
3) USA - WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH pre-empted Doctor Who last weekend due to pledge specials. I think the specials must have been scheduled at the last minute, because I recall they had Warriors' Gate 2+3 on last weekend's schedule at one point. At the moment, their online listings have Doctor Who airing for the rest of this month, but if they are correct those episodes will be skipped altogether, and WCET will go straight to Warriors' Gate 4 and The Keeper of Traken 1.
4) USA - WMPT 22 Annapolis, MD, one of the six transmitters in the MPT network, has been sporadically on and off the air the last several days to enable work on their digital transmitter. The work is scheduled to end today, in which case Doctor Who won't be affected at all. The maintenance work is expected to occur sporadically throughout 2002. Viewers of MPT on DirecTV were experiencing periods of no signal, while most cable companies using WMPT 22's signal were feeding in other MPT signals instead, with varying degrees of success.
Next week's column will go out on Thursday, February 14 instead of the Friday, since much of the regular readership will probably be traveling to the Gallifrey convention in Los Angeles.
